Gardens by the Bay is throwing a floral display just in time for National Day

As the birth month of our nation’s birthday fast approaches, a sparkling new exhibition is sprouting into full bloom.

Commemorating the National Day this bicentennial is Gardens by the Bay with Orchid Extravaganza—a spectacular floral showcase of all things Singaporean. From Jul 26-Sep 15, over 15,000 stalks of our national flower will infiltrate the already-mesmerising landscape there and transform the space into one that’s uniquely Singapore.

Check out more than 80 varieties that will make up a unique display that blends floral artistry and pop art seamlessly. Put together by fashion specialist Yang Derong and under the creative direction of veteran local playwright, film director and singer-songwriter Dick Lee, the showcase aims to represent the Singaporean identity through recognisable local icons and landmarks.

Sections of the outdoor garden will be brought to life with the Legends of Singapore series. With the help of puppets, live music accompaniment and a little imagination, two free concerts will tell the tales of classic Singaporean folklore—”The Scourge of the Swordfish” and “The Friendly Snake”. Happening for only two weekends, watch as your childhood stories unfold into a musical spectacle right in the heart of the garden.

To top it all off, the National Day weekend will call for something extra special—a two-day concert by massive local industry chart-toppers such as Kit Chan, Dick Lee, Rahimah Rahim, Kumar, Aisyah Aziz, Fakkah Fuzz and rising star Jasmine Sokko. So if you haven’t found plans for the upcoming National Day long weekend yet, here’s one to add to the to-do list.

Orchid Extravaganza runs from Jul 26-Sep 15 at the Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay. Admission starts from $8, and can be purchased here.
