With the promise of rare vintage finds, nibbles and just plain good vibes, this Nov 24-25 sees Tan Boon Liat’s block party (#TBLblockparty) back for its second edition with 36 participating furniture brands. For those unfamiliar with this underrated gem of a 15-storey building, all you need to know is that it is where many independent furniture stores call home.
If you’ve missed the inaugural one in 2016, this year’s edition promises to be bigger and better. Furniture shops will open their doors for a whole weekend of nosh, browsing and open interactions. Each shop has their thing, so make your way through the many floors. Emperor’s Attic, specialising in dainty antiques, will come through with a pop-up bazaar of artisanal crafts and live Christmas carols while at Ethnicraft Online, you get to savour Belgian snacks and beers.
Do check out the private collection of rare Persian antique rugs at Hassan’s Carpet and then get your fill of freshly mixed G&Ts as you browse through the design installations and soak up some live tunes by DJ Jeff-0 at Journey East. If you’d like to start early on Christmas shopping, everyone’s favorite gourmet mart, The Providore, has launched its Christmas hamper and gift range. If you’re feeling craftsy, join Ipse Ipsa Ipsum’s coaster-making workshop and take home chic modern Peranakan design coasters.
Some stores are offering exciting discounts and vouchers—even half-price promotions on certain items—while others will also be selling Christmas trinkets. You’ll also have a chance to win $250 in cash vouchers just by registering your email address at any participating stores.
Whether you’re into shabby chic or sleek minimalism, this is your chance to explore the exquisite all-encompassing design mecca while having your fill of fun. Check out some design inspiration from showhouses you can expect to discover at the upcoming #TBLblockparty below.
