The original production of Kinky Boots kicked off in Chicago six years ago, and made its Broadway debut just a year later. Now with a cult following around the world and six Tonys in the bag, including Best Musical, the cast is heading to the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands for a limited eight-day season from Oct 5-14 (Tue-Sun only).
Kinky Boots is based on the 2005 British film of the same name, which is inspired by true events. The main story arc of the smash-hit musical revolves around the story of Charlie Price and the age-old struggle of living up to his father’s expectations in running the family business, Price & Son. As he tries his darndest to keep the business together, he meets Lola, a spectacularly flamboyant drag performer who’s on the prowl for some new and durable stilettos. Though they come from two very different worlds, their lives begin to intertwine and they realize that they bring out the best in each other.
Lola becomes Charlie’s inspiration, and together, they figure out a way to keep Charlie’s family business afloat. More than just the glamorous performances, extravagant costumes and glittery heels, the musical also explores themes of acceptance, kindness, friendship and families, set to the music and lyrics by multi-award winning singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper.
