Like many great legends, Elle Woods will never die. The perky fashionista-cum-lawyer may have first been brought to life by Reese Witherspoon in 2001, but her quirks, quotes and memorable moves have quickly cemented the Legal Blonde as an icon in pop culture. And at last, we in Singapore will be able to get a taste of her too.
From May 10-20, Legally Blonde—The Musical is settling down at The Mastercard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands. The musical, which first premiered on Broadway in 2007, was nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Original Score and Best Leading Actress in a Musical. A decade later, this new production remains just as fabulous, helmed by the creative team that brought us Big League’s My Fair Lady—director Jeffery Moss and Tony-nominated choreographer Bob Richard.
And for fans of the Harvard-certified cutie, rest assured that Elle’s heartwarming story remains the same. After being dumped by her boyfriend Warner (cue the boos) for not being serious about her future, Elle enrolls in Harvard Law School to win him back. Starring Maris Fernandes in the titular role, the all-New York cast will also feature Elle’s friends Emmett, a teaching assistant at Harvard, and hairdresser Paulette; along with a Greek chorus of UCLA sorority sisters and even Bruiser the Chihuahua. Throw in a dazzling set of song-and-dance numbers—bends and snaps guaranteed—and you’ve got the recipe for a perfectly enjoyable night.
