Indulge your inner nostalgia seeker at this upcoming supersized daytime pasar malam

Growing up, we like to think of ourselves part of an exclusive sub-culture, with experiences that those of a later generation will never be privy to, like push-pops, flag erasers and flip phones. Likewise, our parents tell us of their perspective of a bygone era, often triggering eyerolls and careless swats of the hand. Well, if there’s one way to plug this inter-generational gap, it might just be upcoming local market affair Let’s Go Jalan Jalan. Returning for a second edition on Nov 16-18, our very own hyper-local food and music festival will take over the lush surroundings of Turf Club at Kranji, with a smorgasbord of more than 130 merchandise and food booths. Gathering new and old things Singaporean, including food, crafts, and merchandise, Let’s Go Jalan Jalan 2018 is hell-bent on flooding your senses with all things nostalgic.

For eats, enjoy traditional favorite snacks such as tutu kueh and old-school iced gem cookies, alongside durians, salted egg fries, fried ice cream, Slurp Shack’s chilli crab and even Thai pork balls. Those who fancy their palettes more modern can turn to the frozen acai, Thai ice cream rolls and mentaiko fries on-site.

There is more to a fest than food, of course. So get hands-on at the old-school crafts booth, go go-karting, or indulge in kite-painting and some removable tattoo madness. Playing to the theme of all things nostalgic, a Best Dressed Retro contest is one highlight you can look forward to. So put on your most elaborate retro getup, maybe channel Liang Popo, and stand to win prizes. Or just drop by to soak in the good vibes and live music from local talents. And like at all old-school carnivals, you’ll have to purchase coupons at $10 per booklet to spend at the festival.

Let’s Go Jalan Jalan happens Nov 16-18 at Singapore Turf Club @ Kranji, 1 Turf Club Ave. More information here.
