This October, get into the Halloween mood at these themed mansions

Halloween is looming, and with large gatherings and parties still disallowed, how does one get in the mood for All Hallows’ Eve?

Bringing together what we all love about Halloween while keeping things safe and appropriately socially distanced this year are three of Singapore’s heritage mansions—The Alkaff Mansion, The Summerhouse and The Riverhouse—that are each offering a different thematic experience.

Meander through the foothills of Telok Blangah to arrive at The Alkaff Mansion, that’ll be turned into a Money Heist-themed mansion during the Halloween weekend of Oct 30-Nov 1. Borrowing from the hit Netflix series’ iconic moments and symbols, find staff actually dressed in red jumpsuits donning Dali masks as they serve you.

On the menu are on point dishes like The Professor’s Bloodshot Eggs ($12; Chorizo sausage, quail egg, caramelised onions, baguette), Bella Ciao Spider Roquefort Cream ($12; apple jam, walnut, Pedro Ximenez, olives) and Palermo’s Bloody Eyeball Cocktail ($15; Shiraz, rum, blackberry liqueur, lychee juice), that fans of the show will surely click with.

There’s also a Money Bag Lucky Dip event, where customers that have managed to hit a certain minimum spend will be able to take part in to get sure-win vouchers usable at their next visit. And admirers of The Professor, you’ll be excited to know that there will even be red origami papers available for guests to fold while waiting for your orders to arrive.

Then tucked away in the serene neighborhood of Seletar, find The Summerhouse, where its beautiful garden domes will be transformed into creepy, spooky abodes where The Little Red Riding Hood will meet her demise.

From Oct 30-31, find a four-course menu ($85, inclusive of cocktail) that the Big Bad Wolf will surely approve of. Start with a foie gras and pork terrine dish, then move on to a guinea fowl consomme with mushroom and leek dumpling. For mains, choose between a duck coq au vin or venison bourguignon, before ending the meal with a pumpkin cream cheese tart.

For the truly daring among you, follow the winding Singapore River and arrive at The Riverhouse, that’s harking back to its past with a Forbidden Mansion theme all October. The 150-year-old building is swinging open its doors for a hauntingly good time across all its concepts.

Find dishes like The Witch Fingers ($10), a bar snack made using crispy fried pumpkin skin. Or the Jack-O’-Lantern Soup ($10), a creamy pumpkin soup that makes good use of all the flesh from hollowed out pumpkins.

Then wash it all down with the Red Pepper Padre ($18), a tequila-based spicy concoction made using orange liqueur, honeycomb syrup, fresh lime juice and actual bell peppers.

Wherever you choose to be at this Halloween, brace yourself for a memorable and fun, albeit more subdued celebration this year.
