OH! Open House’s beloved art walk series returns to Jalan Besar with cool works at unique spaces

After two years, OH! Open House’s beloved art walk series is back and this time, it’s headed to the streets of Jalan Besar. Returning for its ninth edition, this year’s event will see tours of private spaces and artworks across the weekends of September and October.

Here, visitors can rediscover the messy yet complex and vibrant neighbourhood by roaming workshops of tradesmen and social spaces for migrant workers filled with artworks by local artists including Alan Oei, Min-Wei Ting, Nature Shankar and Subhas.

For instance, highlights include stop-motion films of artists painting artists painting their self-portraits (you can read that again), mixed media installations about migrant justice and repurposed objects which showcase cultural significance.

And leading those tours into the hidden gems of Jalan Besar are volunteer guides from all walks of life. For the very first time, audio transmitters will also be used to facilitate safe distancing between guests.
