It’s almost that time of year again when the sleigh bells ring, presents get exchanged and we all become more willing to suspend our disbelief for some feel-good festive cheer.
One of the main things marking the beginnings of the Christmas season is the Orchard Road Christmas Light-Up, that’s happening starting Nov 16, all the way till Jan 1, 2020 under the theme “The Greatest Gift”. While we’re as excited as the next person for this lit marquee moment, something else is catching our attention this year-end.
The Great Christmas Village—the one with the magnificent duplex carousel, rides, fairy lights, food, performances and all—has outgrown its usual Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza spot this year and is more than doubling its offerings by taking over three separate venues along the entire Orchard thoroughfare.
From Nov 23-Dec 26, expect amusement rides, game booths, food trucks and more to take over the Shaw House Urban Plaza, *Scape and the Grange Road Car Park. Each venue will take on a different focus, making it worthwhile to visit all three villages. At the Shaw House Urban Plaza, expect the Nom Nom Nom food festival that happened at the same spot in July earlier this year to make a return. There will be plenty of street food, the aforementioned duplex carousel, and other rides like a snow car and a clown swing.
Over at *Scape, get to go on a pirate ship and London train ride, while nightly music acts keep you entertained. There’ll be food and drink kiosks here too. The Grange Road Car Park is the place to be for the most thrilling rides. More than 20 rides will be set-up, including bumper cars and the horizontally-spinning Turbo. Toy brand Hasbro will also be invading the space with their Mini Toybox carnival, where you can take part in activities like a Nerf obstacle course or become part of a giant human claw machine to win prizes.
As you go from village to village, journeying from Tanglin all the way to Somerset, look out for the glorious arches and the photo-worthy, interactive set pieces that beckons you stop, pose and snap. All the better for you to remember this year’s Christmas by.
