In alignment with the Singapore Bicentennial, and in support of the President’s Challenge 2019, charity initiative Lion’s Pride will be transforming the one and only Merlion icon into a symbol of hope for the less fortunate, through the universal language of art.

They are organising Art From The Heart, happening now till the end of November, a campaign that taps on the benefits of art therapy for a good cause. Through this, you can not only bring a miniature replica of a Merlion home, but also reimagine its colours and motifs at one of Lion’s Pride’s painting workshops (know where by following their Facebook page). Every participant will receive a 20cm-tall mini Merlion that starts out as a blank canvas and for you to work into a masterpiece to keep.

You can also just choose to purchase a completed Merlion, from a range of eight pre-designed art statues that will make for a great conversation piece in any home. Each colourful 20cm statue bears a unique art style inspired by local culture, and is up for grabs at Robinsons department stores islandwide, and at Changi Airport. A portion of the proceeds will be donated.

And come July, also expect full-sized statues standing at 1.6m to make up an islandwide Merlion Art Trail (starting Jul 28) that winds itself around key national locations, including Orchardgateway, Resorts World Sentosa, the Fullerton Precinct, Far East Plaza and the Affordable Art Fair in November. All eight of the full-sized figures will be auctioned off later this year for charity, so mark your calendars and catch ’em while you can.
