R&B songstress Kehlani will make her Singapore debut in May

Just when we thought the year couldn’t get any better with the lineup or artists slated to perform here, LAMC Productions announces that they’re bringing in Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Kehlani to perform at Zepp @ BigBox for the first time on May 23.

Although she’s enjoying the successes of her first two commercial mixtapes and debut record right now, things weren’t always so smooth-sailing for her. Growing up, she was taken in and adopted by her aunt while her mom, who was struggling with drug addiction, did her time in prison. Her dad passed away when she was just a baby. She later went to Oakland School for the Arts and studied ballet and modern dance. Though she had set her sights on Juilliard, she suffered an injury and shifted her focus to singing. She had her first taste of fame as a member of Poplyfe, but quickly left after the end of season six of America’s Got Talent. Over the next couple of years, she ended up homeless, often couchsurfing wherever she could until Nick Cannon threw her a lifeline after hearing her first solo track on SoundCloud. Since then, it’s been nothing but an upward direction for Kehlani.

Throughout the years, Kehlani takes it upon herself to say it exactly how it is. The critically acclaimed record SweetSexySavage is a brutally honest one where she waxes lyrical about her life, pain, passion, love, triumph and everything in between.

Tickets are priced from $98 via Sistic from Apr 3, 10am onwards.
