Well well, aren’t we a progressive state? The last year was a fabulous one for local drag fans, with superstar alumni from RuPaul’s Drag Race gracing our shores with their sold-out shows. First it was Season 6’s Bianca Del Rio in November, then dynamic duo from Season 8 Naomi Smalls and Kim Chi (with a bonus appearance by Lady Bunny) in March. This July, another fierce queen is making her way over—and it’s none other than Season 9 winner and reigning Drag Race queen Sasha Velour herself.
Season 9 winner Sasha Velour
On Jul 25, catch Velour in all her sickening glory at Shine Auditorium, in her latest tour brought to Singapore by LA Comedy Live. The 75-minute one-woman show will include some of the New York-based queen’s favorite numbers Cellophane, This Woman’s Work, and Don’t Cry Out Loud, as well as brand new material that would surely do Brooklyn nightlife proud. Velour has been featured in countless publications that include Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Vanity Fair; but beyond her makeup looks, the drag queen and illustrator has quickly become a modern-day icon in the creative community for her bold aesthetic, and creative and political vision.
Since Season 10 of the Emmy-winning reality TV competition is currently airing (they’re at Episode 7 now, so stay away from the spoiler memes all over Instagram), it means Velour will unfortunately be dethroned by the time her stilettos even land on our soil. But something tells us she won’t be a has-been anytime soon.
Sasha Velour—Live in Singapore happens Jul 25 at Shine Auditorium, 100 Beach Road. Tickets are on sale here and more information is available here.
