Illuminated art installations, holiday market and more at Island Lights 2019

If you found last year’s edition of Island Lights a marvel to behold, you’ll want to make a trip down to Sentosa again this year-end. For this edition, the festival is leaving the sandy shores of Palawan Beach behind, and heading towards the Eastern end of the island.

Happening Nov 16-Dec 31 at Sentosa Cove Village is Island Lights 2019. On the first weekend, things kick off with the ONE°15 Christmas Boat Light Parade. Come on Saturday to catch the yachts show off their static light displays, while on Sunday, see the parade in full glory as the boats set sail together come sundown. There’ll be a Sentosa Cove Holiday Market only from Nov 16-17 too, where 15 stalls will be offering festive treats and gifts.

Also check out the Snowflake Symphony light show at Quayside Isle, that takes place every night over the entire duration of the festival. And every weekend (and every day from Dec 20-29), roving percussionists, fire twirlers, free movie screenings and other performances will keep you entertained as well.

The highlight has got to be the giant illuminated art installations however, this year revolving around the theme of ‘Celebration’. Local and international artists will be showcasing seven eye-catching works that are all best admired after sunset, including the light-hearted Candy Quartz. Bound to be a crowd favourite, it’s actually a seesaw, and encourages passersby to interact with it.

While last year’s Harmony stole the limelight, our bet is on the Beacon of Light this year. The work, a site-specific installation featuring three tall illuminated structures, is inspired by lighthouses. Pretty apt, considering the dockside location of the festival.
