This Thursday (Dec 3) marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and if you would like to know more about how we can work towards a more inclusive, accessible and sustainable society for persons with disabilities, join SG Enable as it presents the inaugural Enabling Lives Festival this Dec 3-22.
For nearly three weeks in the final month of 2020, see the event theme of Connect, Collaborate, Celebrate come alive and strengthen connections between the disability community, create collaborations, as well as celebrate disability inclusion efforts and the achievements of persons with disabilities.
Over on the festival’s microsite, check out a series of signature events as well as over 15 virtual workshops, panel discussions and performances that persons with disabilities, their caregivers and the public can participate in. That includes the Digital Art on iPad – Introduction to Drawing Cartoons Using Vectors and Microsoft Webinar on Accessibility, that demonstrates how technology can fuel a more inclusive environment.
Fun is also guaranteed thanks to performances like Ho! Ho! Home! An Online Christmas Sing-along Experience, and a live ticketed Esplanade performance, Universe of Feelings. The latter features a cast and crew which includes five youths with disabilities performing together with Superhero Me’s community of inclusive arts practitioners mentored by director Samantha Bounaparte from the Republic Polytechnic School of Technology for the Arts.
But that’s not all. Returning as an online retail experience, the i’mable Gift Market (from Dec 5-12) will offer a myriad of original works, artisanal gifts, as well as premium items showcasing the artistry of talented persons with disabilities thanks to over 30 vendors from various non-profit, social and commercial enterprises. From fresh bakes and treats to apparel and accessories for your Christmas gifting needs, there’s bound to be something for everyone.
