If you have been thinking about getting inked, take this as a sign. Tattoo and art event Ink & Art (formerly Ink & Cut, but without the barbers this time) is returning to The Cathay for its third consecutive year, bringing with it a lineup of artistic events that will delight participants regardless of pain tolerance.
Helmed by local tattoo studio Traditions Tattoo Collective, this year’s edition offers shoppers a chance to get tatted by an artist for free, but with a catch—the tattoos are a mystery and only on the forearm. The only creative direction participants are allowed to input are their selection from a series of words presented; from there, the fate of your ink will depend solely on your chosen artist’s interpretation. So if you’re up for the thrill, simply spend a minimum of $80 at any shop at The Cathay and the ink is yours.
For the enthusiastic but timid, hyper-realistic temporary tattoos are also an option. Skilled artists from Out & Ink will be on-site to dish out painless and beautiful pieces using organic ink, so you can get something while you contemplate the commitment that comes with permanent tattoos.
Plus, live music performances will be setting the right mood at the event, courtesy of The Moon House, Genesis Keefer and YanHui, in addition to a live mural showcase by Araikreva Raihana to feed your eyes and mind. For a day of creative self-expression, with or without the needle, drop by The Cathay.
Ink & Art happens Jun 22-23, 1-9pm at The Cathay.
