Check out immersive games, exhibits and a silent disco at the upcoming Remix 2k21 festival

We may still be in the final stretch of 2020, but 2021 is already looking swell thanks to an array of festivals and events confirmed to take place in the coming year. For starters, you’ll want to take the opportunity to uncover a different side of Singapore, especially when the returning Remix 2k21 festival heads our way.

From Jan 15-24, rediscover our Singaporean Chinese culture over two weekends at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre’s festival for youths as it offers its first-ever hybrid edition, encompassing exhibitions, fashion shows, silent music parties, escape room games and performances held onsite and online.

First, discover how Chinese culture can be found in all aspects of our everyday lives. Take a trip down memory lane at the interactive exhibition, All Walks of Love, which explores love in the local Chinese culture from birth to adulthood. Snap your way through gorgeous backdrops and designs of cultural milestones that will bring back fond memories, such as the large red eggs that celebrate a baby’s first full moon as well as a life-sized see-saw signifying childhood friendship.

Then feast your eyes upon fashion pieces from the inaugural Remix 2k21 Fashion Design Competition, where talented local youths drew inspiration from our cultural identity to create innovative designs. But if you’re unable to head down to the centre, easily go online to enjoy a livestream showcase of the looks shortlisted by celebrity stylist and fashion designer Keith Png, alongside celebrity Kate Pang and SCCC CEO Low Sze Wee.

Meanwhile, those who enjoy solving puzzles can take a crack at Pan!c at the Gallery – The Remix Escape Game. Available both online and offline, the experience takes participants to the Singapo人 permanent exhibition, where they will be tasked to stop a nefarious plot through challenging puzzles.

Finally, embark on a musical journey with a special edition of the popular livestream concert series TGIF Music Station: SCCC X YES 933. Taking the stage are popular artistes such as AL4HA, Joel Choo, Fang Rong, Ferlyn G, Fingerfunk, JJ Neo, The Fleurist, The Cold Cut Duo, BPM and Qiu Feng Ze x Cai Zi. Then, continue the musical celebration and dance the night away at the Remix Silent Music Party that features two themed experiences. There are online and onsite versions where you’ll rediscover familiar tunes or take a personality quiz to enjoy curated playlists.

With so much fun to come, just head over to the festival website to check out the full line-up of events. Looks like the SCCC has found a way to make our often overlooked mother tongue cool again.

Remix 2k21 will happen online and at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre from Jan 15-24. More information available here.
