Arts enclave Goodman Arts Centre opens its doors for an annual festival

Goodman Arts Centre invites one and all to its annual Goodman Open House for a day of creativity across all art forms. This year’s edition promises a day chock-full of workshops and performances, adding up to over 20 activities for guests to better understand the creative process of artists.

As with the previous years, the lineup features spectacular live performances; all of which you can attend for free. Cultural performances such as Joget Joget, a Malaccan quick-tempoed traditional dance, or a classical Indian dance by Apsaras Arts that incorporates expressive hand gestures to convey enthralling stories are some of the highlights to look forward to. Alternatively, check out performances by Singapore Lyric Opera’s Children Choir and the Philharmonic Youth Winds for a melodic sing along session.

The theatrical productions alone are worth dropping by for; Sita’s Magical Forest takes on a re-imagined tale from the celebrated Ramayana Epic that takes the audience on a dance-drama adventure into the forest set to the score of classical music pianist Anil Srinivasan, while Hug The Tree explores an Indian folktale of The Chipko movement.

With workshops and studio sessions aplenty, there simply isn’t time to find yourself idle. Take a step out of your comfort zone and sign up for the Creative Movement Workshop @ T.H.E Dance Studio for an hour-long contemporary dance-and-theatre workout. Or take a gander into the world of visual arts at Dance of the Lotus Flower: Chinese Ink Painting—The Thousand Year Art to try your hand at Chinese Ink Painting. For the full multi-sensorial experience, engage your olfactory senses at Je T’aime Perfumery Open Studio Tour for an insider’s tour of the perfume-concoction.

And if you’re generally not an artsy person, there’s still something for you. A specially curated mini food marketplace awaits to satiate your tastebuds.

Goodman Open House happens Jun 22, 11am-5pm at Goodman Arts Centre. Admission is free and more information here.
