Latin American food hasn’t quite made its mark in Singapore yet—but that might be about to change. For the first time, a dedicated Latin American food festival, Latinada, is arriving on our shores, to spread the love and flavor of the region’s exotic cuisine.
Happening Sep 17-23, the one-week festival organized by Peruvian restaurant Tono Cevicheria will spotlight one country each day, with decadent meals from the participating restaurants. Taste from crowd favorites OLA Cocina del Mar, Grain Traders, Kilo, Kiln Petitenget, PICA South American Kitchen, Nunsantara by Locavore and more, as their chefs take you on a gastronomic journey across Mexico, Chile, Peru, Venezuela and Brazil. Curated by the founder of Tono Cevicheria, Peruvian chef Daniel Chavez, the festival was inspired by his time at the Ubud Food Festival in Bali, where he met a community of Latin American chefs cooking the cuisine of their home. And hence, Latinada’s theme “A Week in Bali” was born.
So prep your belly for a party (“tono” means party in Peruvian). Whether it’s ceviche you’re craving for, tacos, empanadas, lamb ribs or even Brazilian stews (to which we say: bravo for possessing a well-traveled palate), you’re bound to find it there. It’ll make a nice change from your daily mee pok.
