Before descending upon Temple Street for their past two editions, OG block party people Urban Ventures threw their first nine street takeovers along the entire Keong Saik stretch. Now, for their upcoming 12th escapade, they’re heading back to where it all began.
Urban Ventures 12: Keong Saik Street Carnival, happening Oct 5, has been long-awaited (they did take a year’s hiatus). While they threw not one, not two, but three block parties in 2018, they’ve been completely silent in 2019, until now, with just a couple of months left on the calendar. But better late than never, we say.
Expect them to make a grand return, bringing more buzz to an already buzzing street. The area will be closed to vehicles, allowing music stages, dance classes, art installations and of course, plenty of vendors to set up on the roads. There’ll be thumping beats at both ends of the street—from the Selector’s Stage on Keong Saik Road itself, and from the Tropical Heat Hangout on adjoining Jiak Chuan Road.

Then get crafty along Workshop Way, where you can take part in a community installation project, weave on mini looms at a workshop, and even get your hair cut for charity. Continue doing some good while getting your retail fix at the Business for Good Zone, where Singapore-based social enterprises will be setting up a market offering artisanal products.
Don’t forget to treat yourself right by taking part in free fitness classes ranging from pilates and HIIT to even pole dancing. For drinks and grub, Keong Saik residents Neon Pigeon, Limehouse, Kate Utu, alongside alcohol labels like Tanqueray and Johnnie Walker will be setting up shop to keep your hunger pangs at bay, and your thirst quenched.
