What not to miss at Singapore River Festival 2019

Over the course of the next two months, all quays—that’s Boat, Clarke and Robertson—will play host to some non-stop partying for the fifth instalment of the Singapore River Festival. The festival, themed “Your River Your Vibe” this year, mashes together several known-and-loved celebratory events in Singapore such as Chingay and the Singapore Night Festival.

Having recently kicked off strong with Tiger’s booze-powered weekend at Boat Quay’s Circular Road, the party is only just getting warmed up.

Heading over to Clarke Quay for a good dancing sesh is nothing too unfamiliar but come Aug 16-17, the Fountain Square will be transformed into a giant dance floor for Stream 2019 @ Clarke Quay. Strap on your best dance shoes and take to the floor, as alternative shoegaze group Subsonic Eye, bilingual hip-hop rapper Yung Raja, 2018 Baybeats Budding Band Dreebsby, Geylang Serai-hailing viral rapper Fariz Jabba and more will bring a truly local soundtrack.

Refrain from dancing on an empty stomach though; pop-up food kiosks by crowd-pleasers like Chupitos Bar, Harry’s Bar, Get Juiced and Le Noir will be available as refuelling stations, purely for your convenience.

Also, have your Mid-Autumn festivities further down the stream at Robertson Quay from Sep14-15, where a childhood-reminiscent lantern walkabout will take place. Take a gentle stroll along the river with an LED lantern; or for something a little more unorthodox, volunteer to be part of a giant human claw machine for a chance to grab something cool.

Then, end the night with a serene boat ride against the sparkling skyscape and watch the night sky come abuzz with the crowd-favourite LED kite performance.

Singapore River Festival 2019 takes place from now to Sep 15 at Clarke Quay and Roberston Quay. More info here.
