Save your SingapoRediscovers Vouchers for another day; now that it’s not expiring anytime soon, you can look forward to visiting the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) for some light-hearted and hassle-free fun first.
Happening from May 14-Jun 12, Cultural Extravaganza 2021 is SCCC’s fifth annual instalment of 20 over cultural dance and music performances—the first in hybrid format. We recommend you follow our itinerary below for an entertainment-filled month you won’t regret.
The Journey
After the opening ceremony on May 14, start your extravaganza proper with the breathtaking musical performance that is The Journey (May 15). You’re set to witness how the Chinese string instrument ruan can go hand-in-hand with bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance. The Journey kickstarts what CE is about and represents: however different ethnic cultures are, they can complement one another.
The Master of Comedy 2
Later, complete your evening with local comedians including Wang Wei Liang (Ah Boys to Men), Judee Tan (The Noose), and Jo Tan (Tiong Bahru Social Club) at The Master of Comedy 2 (May 15). This just-for-laughs performance touches on Singaporean Mandarin and dialect heritage through the minds of renowned local playwright Koh Teng Liang, director Goh Boon Teck and music director August Lum. Besides having a laugh, you can also put your knowledge of Cantonese, Hokkien, Hainanese, Teochew and Hakka to the test.
Jazz It Up!
Consider enjoying Cultural Extravaganza 2021 in the comfort of your own home with a dance performance《盤》Pan (May 22) or a live concert Jazz It Up! (June 6). Whichever you choose, your senses are in for a treat as these feature works from T.H.E dance company and local singers Joanna Dong, Tay Kewei and Marcus Lee respectively. Should you prefer to catch ‘em live, however, physical options are available.
Sing 2021
Finally, end off Cultural Extravaganza on a high at Sing•浪 2021 (Jun 12). Held live at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, look forward to partying to Mandarin hit songs performed by local singers including Kit Chan, Joanna Dong and Benjamin Kheng. Plus, our homegrown rapper Yung Raja will be there too.
And there you have it, SCCC’s Cultural Extravaganza 2021, from May to June, all mapped out.
