It was billed as Asia’s most anticipated art fair, but Art SG did not disappoint when it finally kicked off earlier this year. It was big and glamorous, with over 150 leading galleries from around the world descending to our city-state to showcase carefully selected artworks and specially curated presentations.
Art SG will be back for its second edition at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, from Jan 19 to 21, 2024 (VIP preview will be held on Jan 18).
Organised by The Art Assembly and presented by founding and lead partner UBS, Art SG will feature 116 exceptional galleries from 33 countries and territories, of which 38 new galleries will be joining the fair for the first time.
While the gallery count may be lesser than the inaugural edition, it still promises exceptional art presentations from Singapore and Southeast Asia, alongside the best of global contemporary art from around the world.
The international contemporary art fair spotlights Singapore as a fast-rising cultural capital and key destination for artistic exchange and discoveries, and is co-timed with Singapore Art Week, the city’s annual celebration of the visual arts.
In 2024, Art SG will host once again leading international galleries including Gagosian, White Cube, Thaddaeus Ropac, Lehmann Maupin, neugerriemschneider, Xavier Hufkens, and Stephen Friedman Gallery.
There will also be a strong line-up of Southeast Asian galleries such as Richard Koh Fine Art, Gajah Gallery, FOST Gallery, Bangkok Citycity and Nadi Gallery.
Three main sectors – Galleries, Focus (solo/duo artist programmes and curated thematic presentations) and Futures (young artists under 10 years) – will return.
See works from international artists such as Ai WeiWei, Ian Davenport and Isamu Noguchi; digital and new media artists like Quayola and Refik Anadol; and Southeast Asian and Singaporean names like Alex Face, Htein Lin and Dawn Ng.
Other highlights will showcase large-scale, site-specific installations, film programmes and insightful talks on Southeast Asian contemporary culture with art world thought leaders.
Outside of the fair, art lovers can visit partner shows for a more curated and intimate experience. These include Tropical: Stories from Southeast Asia and Latin America at National Gallery Singapore; Ho Tzu Nyen: “Time & The Tiger” at Singapore Art Museum and Simryn Gill and Charles Lim Yi Yong: “The Sea is a Field” at Singapore Art Museum.
Art SG runs from Jan 19 to 21, 2024 (VIP on Jan 18) at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands.
