Premier whisky event The Malt Affair Volume 8 hits Singapore for one day only on Nov 2 at Amara Singapore Ballroom. Get set for a spirited adventure filled with over 400 whiskies from 21 exhibitors, including Diageo Rare & Exceptional which is joining the event for the first time as official bottler.
While the lineup features rare vintage whiskies from the 1950s to 1980s and cult Japanese labels, 70 percent of the whiskies are priced below $50 per pour, ensuring there is something for every palate. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own glassware or purchase a Luigi Bormioli snifter glass on-site for $10.
Exhibitors span from respected whisky bars, independent bottlers, whisky distributors and private collectors to a whisky club and an online auction. Look out for The Single Cask, known for its exclusive single cask bottlings around the world; and Catawiki, which will showcase hard-to-find whiskies like Bowmore 1956 OB, Longmorn 1969 Cask, Mortlach 1970 16yo Intertrade, and Clynelish 1972. Other exhibitors, such as Animal Spirits, Friends with Drams, Proof & Company, Rudder and Simplywhisky.sg bring their own portfolio of signature and vintage collections to add depth and diversity to this year’s edition.
Diageo’s private client team, Diageo Rare & Exceptional, will present some of the world’s most highly coveted brands, including Mortlach, Talisker, The Singleton, Lagavulin, as well as legendary ghost distilleries such as Brora, and the recently restored and revived Port Ellen.
The Malt Affair will also welcome international whisky wizards, including Dutch authority Michiel Wigman, Japanese luminaries Hideo Yamaoka and Tatsuya Minagawa, and Italian specialists Max Righi and Enrico Gaddoni.
Righi will lead three masterclasses and dive deep into vintage Macallan verticals and rare Islay whiskies. His Rare Islay Masterclass is priced at $290, providing an exclusive opportunity for whisky enthusiasts to explore the vintages at a more accessible entry point.
If you are a whisky aficionado with deep pockets, the event offers the unique opportunity to taste four uber-rare and most expensive bottles, available by the dram. Each one is priced from $35,000 to $60,000, but purchasing a full bottle is not an option. Instead, guests can savour pours priced from $820 to $2000 for a 20ml serving. The exceptional whiskies from legendary distilleries and elusive vintages include Ardbeg 1965 23 Year Old Cadenhead for Mizuhashi; Port Ellen 12 Year Old James MacArthur Dark; Laphroaig 1966 Year Old Intertrade; and Black Bowmore Edition 1.
