Remember paper bus tickets? Take a trip down memory lane at this year’s Singapore HeritageFest (SHF 2023) where public transportation and sports are the main themes.
Presented by the National Heritage Board (NHB), SHF 2023 invites festival-goers to uncover the lesser-known stories about Singapore’s unique history and heritage with a dynamic line-up of over 80 programmes.
Over four weekends from May 1–28, go on a journey exploring the evolution of Singapore’s sports and public transportation scene – two prevalent yet commonly overlooked aspects of our daily lives.
Programmes include guided trails, hands-on workshops, exhibitions, film screenings and more. Some are specially organised in celebration of significant national milestones like SBS Transit and SportSG’s 50th anniversary, Singapore Sports Museum’s 40th anniversary, the 35th anniversary of the launch of the MRT system, as well as National Heritage Board (NHB)’s 30th anniversary.
Highlights include:
- Homeground installation, which brings together 10 of NHB’s well-loved heritage trails in one jam-packed experience at the National Museum of Singapore;
- A Showcase of Public Transport Memorabilia, presented by Singapore’s youngest bus driver-turned-bus captain Matthew Tay, and bus enthusiast Muhd Naz Farihin;
- Letterpress Guided Tour – Remembering the Bus Ticket, a hands-on experience of how printing bus tickets was done back in the old days;
- Silat Cultural Open House 2023, where participants can immerse themselves in the artistic and physical aspects of Silat;
- Wheels on the Bus: Horses & Heritage in Singapore, where participants get to know more about equestrian sports at the new Bukit Timah Saddle Club; and
- Behind the Turf: An Exclusive Tour of the Jalan Besar Stadium – one of Singapore’s significant places for football.
Members of the public can register for SHF 2023 programmes starting from Apr 20 via the SHF 2023 website.
