5 Of A Kind Street Art Festival (5OAK) 2023 returns bigger and better this year with homegrown and international artists celebrating the vibrant tapestry of urban subcultures. It’s all happening at D’Marquee @ Downtown East, only from Sep 29 to Oct 1.
This year, the three-day street art festival expands beyond dance (5OAK was first launched in 2022 as a nationwide street dance event) to include music, street art, fashion and food – all under one roof. A celebration of urban cultures, this second edition of 50AK aims to recognise Singapore’s talents across a multitude of artistic disciplines and provide aspiring youths with an avenue to exhibit their craft.
Supported by Downtown East (managed by NTUC Club) and National Arts Council, organisers hope to connect and promote cross collaboration among these communities, as well as expose and inspire the public to develop an interest in these intriguing sub-cultures.
Dance remains a main draw. Attending icons from the industry whose names have become synonymous with dance excellence, include Acky from Japan, Brother Bin from Korea, Niako from France and more, as they share their expertise, techniques and secrets to help one elevate their dance game.
All attendees have a chance to get up close and personal with the dance world’s best and brightest, and learn the intricacies of dance styles directly from the artists who have mastered them. Sign up for workshops which are designed to give participants an immersive experience in a specific dance form.
Participants will learn the fundamental techniques, navigate the unique expressions of each style, and put their learning into practice as they explore their own artistic voice, guided by renowned instructors who are passionate about helping each dancer shine. Prices start from just $35 per workshop with limited slots up for grabs here, and snag discounted bundle prices to join multiple workshops with all your favourite dance legends.
Over the three festival days, expect to see dance competitions, immersive workshops, live music performances, urban art exhibitions and live mural paintings by homegrown street artists such as Boon Baked, Demster, Phatnoez and Defaze.
At the 5OAK Marketplace, there will be fashion apparel and merchandise booths with artisanal creations from homegrown brands like Carousell Certified Sneakers and Pelynnoobakes. The Food Village – Makan on Wheels will satisfy taste buds with diverse flavors that mirror the cultural diversity of Singapore from vendors such as ChixOutz, Loco Loco, Brostern and Mr Bean Singapore.
On days two and three of the event, celebrate the local music scene with local singers, rap artists and musicians, amplified by eclectic live music performances with an urban beat, with ABANGSAPAU, Cravism and more. Don’t forget to leave your mark at the festival (under the guidance of experts) at public art try-outs and hands-on art workshops.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite. The first 500 attendees will receive a complimentary goodie bag consisting of attractive goodies. Admission fees* are priced at $50 (Music Pass); $70** (Dance Pass); and $95**(All-access Pass).
*All festival passes include free admission into the urban arts exhibition, fashion market and food village.
