Though you might not know it, the European country of Hungary has plenty to boast about. But it’s not just about goulash, a hearty meat stew heavy with hot paprika – and also a famed Hungarian product. There are wines from the Tokaji-Hegyalja region, hot springs and even the mind-bending Rubik’s Cube.

Look forward to sampling each of these and more at Singapore’s first-ever Hungarian Month throughout the month of October, organised by the Embassy of Hungary as a nod to their country’s 54-year-long diplomatic relationship with the Lion City.

To kick off the festivities, head down to the likes of the Serangoon Gardens Country Club, Cafe Melba or dessert brand Rollney, each presenting their own inspired take on a Hungarian-themed culinary takeover for the entire month.

Not to be left out, 15 Stamford restaurant at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore will be hosting its own Kempinski Hungarian Gourmet Week later from Oct 21 to 27, where it’ll be serving its own curated Hungarian menu paired with fine wines.

Once sated, foodies can look forward to a Hungarian beer brewing workshop by iBrew, pogacsa (a type of Hungarian cheese biscuit) baking demo and wine tasting at Serangoon Gardens Country Club, and cocktail evening sessions using Tokaj Gin at The Exchange Bar.

That said, there’s more to Hungarian Month than just food and wine. The festivities will culminate in a grand Hungarian Fair at the Capitol Piazza on Oct 26, where Hungarian music, arts and crafts and cuisine will be put on proud display at a lively fair for the whole family.

Another aspect of Hungary will also be honoured on the very same day at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore. We’re talking, of course, about Rubik’s Cube, a puzzle invented 50 years ago by Hungarian sculptor and design professor Erno Rubik. His world-famous invention is set to take centre stage at the Official Rubik’s Cube competition, marking the puzzle’s very own golden jubilee with a multi-hued bang.
