Have you ever been curious about what your child wants to be when they’re older? Or are you thinking of a good way to introduce them to the wide range of career options in the years ahead?
The annual Children’s Season is here to lend a helping hand. This year’s event, which runs from May 27 to Jun 25, is themed “Hopes and Dreams” where children of all ages can explore multiple occupations and inventions from the past and present at an array of museums around Singapore.
Jointly presented by the National Heritage Board (NHB) and the Museum Roundtable (MR), participants can look forward to a spread of more than 100 family-friendly programmes across 25 participating MR museums.
Children can attend the highlight programme, a series of 30 comic art workshops that allow participants to create their comic artwork, led by local artists and art educators. All sessions will feature unique themes, with the goal of imparting visual communication skills to children and providing opportunities for families to spend time together.
For instance, at Singapore Mobility Gallery, young ones can dream up cars of the future and try their hand at doodling and transform random squiggles into cool and crazy cars under the guidance of an artist. At Peranakan Museum, participants can reinvent a classic fairy tale in comics and imagine “What if Cinderella were Nyonya?”.
Participating museums will have their own set of family-friendly activities for everyone to take part in. The MINT Museum allows participants to design their own toy via augmented reality, while the NUS Museum invites kids to be an archaeologist for a day by digging up and reconstructing broken fragments to make references to what they discovered.
Families that visit any one of the 25 participating museums can also collect a “passport”, where children can collect stamps and win prizes. The more stamps they collect, the more prizes can be unlocked.
