Attention! Do you know your D24 from your Mao Shan Wang? If you love durians but are clueless about the different varieties, 99 Old Trees’s Durian Confidence Course (DCC) could be for you.
A tongue-in-cheek play on an army course titled Jungle Confidence Course, the mission of DCC is to train the next batch of durian connoisseurs.
Learn from durian experts at 99 Old Trees – a local retailer of farm-direct durians – from Jun 19 to Jul 4. They will give “recruits” an interactive 90-minute lesson on identifying different durians from Malaysia, how to choose the best durian, how to open the fruit, and tips on identifying over-selling techniques by unscrupulous sellers.
The best part? DCC includes a durian tasting session where you get to try six different cultivars, along with free flow of Mao Shan Wang and a selection of drinks.
Lessons will be held at the al fresco area outside the cafe which will be transformed into a military-themed “jungle” environment.
Each participant will also receive an exclusive goodie bag with a “CID” (Certified-in-Durian) T-Shirt, a durian squishy, a Stinky Roll (light and airy Japanese sponge cake filled with a layer of Mao Shan Wang and fresh custard cream), and a DCC manual.
