Have we mentioned that 2024 is going to be an incredible year for concerts and gigs?
While Singapore is proud to host some of the world’s biggest acts, let’s not forget the indie bands, especially those from Southeast Asia.
Music Day Out (MDO) 2024, part of *scape’s creative arts festival comma, will offer indie music fans a chance to catch 16 of the best and boldest acts from the region’s thriving music scenes.
Presented by *scape and festival partner Steady State Records, get ready to rock on Jan 13 and 14 at the *scape The Ground Theatre.
The festival’s theme is Disruption, so expect an eclectic lineup spanning various genres, including but not limited to indie rock, electronic, punk, and experimental music. It’ll be a celebration of raw talent and innovation that characterises the underground music scenes of the region.
The cutting-edge lineup of Singaporean artists includes all-girl hardcore trailblazers Fuse, shoegaze heroes Blush, math-pop stalwarts Woes, and many more. The region’s best kept secrets will also be joining them, with exhilarating sets from post-punk luminaries Leipzig from Indonesia, punk icons No Good from Malaysia, and math-rock aficionado Gabba from the Philippines.
Two guest programmers Dirty Window and Endless Return will be featured. Dirty Window is a youth music collective that will present up-and-coming math quartet monda(e), and the return of instrumental rockers Approaching Aphelion from hiatus.
Endless Return is an alternative rave promoter that will present Indonesian electronic group Prontaxan, bringing their unique blend of rave and dangdut music to Singaporean shores. Student band Impulse will also perform, having clinched a spot in MDO’s lineup by winning the ITE x MDO Battle of the Bands competition in ITE College Central.
To facilitate knowledge transfer and to develop the industry side of things, the conference element of MDO will offer sharing sessions and a drum workshop, all situated at the *scape Gallery. Find out if touring is as fun and glamorous as it sounds in “What’s tour life like”, and interesting anecdotes about artistes’ strange behaviors, mannerisms and requests in “Artists just gon be artists”.
