Green-House 2024, the third edition of a sustainability-focused immersive retail festival, will soon be returning bigger and better than ever to the recently opened New Bahru creative collective by The Lo & Behold Group.
The festival, happening on Jul 13 and 14, will feature the largest collection of eco-conscious brands in its three-year history, ranging from homegrown sustainability warriors to multinational powerhouses. Expect a host of retail booths, interactive exhibition spaces and workshops, all brought together by organiser Pass It On Studio and spread across three conceptual “playgrounds” themed Renew, Reimagine and Reconnect.
The first of these, Renew, places sustainable innovations and unbridled creativity in the spotlight with twin art exhibitions by Mercedes-Benz Singapore and Samsonite. The luxe car brand, itself on a journey to achieve net carbon-neutrality along its entire value chain by 2039, will be presenting Circling Zero in collaboration with Singapore-based Knock Knock Studio, where used car parts will be transformed into functional, and dare we say aesthetically pleasing, pieces of furniture.
Samsonite, on the other hand, will be taking its world-renowned luggage and sending it on a circular journey of its own with Tomorrow is Here – a community-led installation that sees a vibrant tapestry of woven fabric linings from reclaimed packages as its base, and further layers of unwanted fabric contributed by the community at large.
This theme of upcycling, sustainable slow production practices and regenerative manufacturing continues at the retail booths in the zone, which comprises of brands like Triple Eyelid, Objects.re, Fin Crafted and Wild Dot among others.
Next up comes Reimagine, where the future of food and mindful living takes centre stage with curated workshops and eco-conscious grub. Visitors can enjoy a three-course plant-based feast at Mercedes-Benz Kantine, hosted in collaboration with Fura, a sustainability-focused bar on Amoy Street.
Innovative reimaginations of casual nosh include the Dogless Hotdog, comprising slow-roasted carrots – the “dogs” – slathered with microgreens and banana ketchup, and New Age Goreng Pisang, pairing caramelised banana ice cream with banana skin dulce. Reservations are necessary for the Kantine, which offers two seatings each day of Green-House 2024 at 11am and 1pm.
Workshops include a class that teaches participants how to turn used coffee grounds into fertiliser (complete with an edible plant in a handcrafted pot to bring home), a fabric wreath workshop, and a do-it-yourself solar-powered toy activity for the kiddos.
Visitors can also arm themselves with the necessary tools to make sustainable change in their own routines with upcycled handbags from Webeings (hewn from discarded garments and upcycled plastics), eco-conscious kitchenware by Homebody, and long-wear garments by Atlas Kind.
Last but not least comes Reconnect at the outdoor lawn, encouraging participants to – you’ve guessed it – reconnect with the outdoors.
There’ll be pet adoption booths by welfare organisations, bird toy workshops by the Parrot Society of Singapore, and even a pet photoshoot contest with the chance to win 25 camping sets (worth over $400 each) exclusively co-designed for the event by Mercedes-Benz and Helinox, a South Korean adventure brand – so be sure to bring your furry pals along for the event!
Green-House 2024 takes place on Jul 13 and 14 at New Bahru, 46 & 58 Kim Yam Road Singapore 239351.
