The Singapore River Festival returns for its 8th edition from Oct 4 to 13 with a dazzling display of light shows, pet-friendly river cruises, interactive night walks and live music performances up and down the historic river.
Themed “River of Lights and Colours”, Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay will take on a new light with an exciting line-up of family-friendly events to complement its usual evening entertainment programme.
This begins first and foremost with the Symphony of Lights – a series of themed light shows illuminating different facets of the regional food, entertainment, nature and business hub that is Singapore.
Cavenagh Bridge at Boat Quay kicks off the celebration with the “Urban Pulse” light show honouring the Lion City’s historic charm. Clarke Quay’s Read Bridge showcases Singapore’s diverse food and entertainment scene, while Alkaff Bridge (near the similarly named Alkaff Quay) looks on the serene side with “Tranquil Oasis”, lighting up the cityscape with calming, peaceful hues of green and blue.
That’s not all. There will be a unique musical experience called Rhythmic Symphony (Oct 4 to 5) featuring live music performances both on river cruise and along the waterfront – so you can look forward to vibrant tunes as you partake in curated food tours, workshops and masterclasses that highlight the very best of the food and drink options along the Singapore River.
This brings us to Singapore River Signatures, another festival highlight comprising activities that celebrates the culinary diversity along the rivers. We’re talking sampling flavours of old and new during Taste of the Quays tour (Oct 5, 6, 12, 13) – think Rendezvous Hock Lock Kee’s Nasi Padang, or the nut-based gelato from Dopa Dopa – and the chance to decorate your own artisanal croissants at the cheekily named Kwaasong Bakeshop.
Once sated, visitors can fill up with some culture, enjoying a relaxing walk along the banks of the river as you soak in the night vibes while discovering historic facts about the iconic waterway. During the Heritage Games Fiesta (Oct 12 to 13), play giant traditional games like pick-up sticks, snakes and ladders, and aeroplane chess. Additionally, enjoy engaging workshops like Make a Chapteh and Paint a Wooden Top, movie screening, and giveaways like balloon sculptures and candy floss. There’ll even be interactive photo booths to keep you and the kiddos occupied along the way.
Apart from your, well, actual children, do feel free to bring the fur kids along as well, as the Singapore River Festival 2024 will end off with Fur-tastic Paw-ty – a pet-friendly extravaganza with pet obstacle course on land, bumboat rides with the fur kids on water, pet food workshops and a pet market to boot.
