This July, visitors to Gardens by the Bay will have a unique perspective of French Impressionist painter Claude Monet (1840-1926).
Jointly presented by Gardens by the Bay and Neon, Impressions of Monet is a first-of-its-kind exhibition that seamlessly combines multi-sensory immersion and the beauty of nature.
The works, centred on the art, life and gardens of the famed artist, will come to life in a blend of horticulture and technology. Visitors to the Flower Dome will experience two distinct but complementary aspects of the exhibition in one location: Impressions of Monet: The Garden, and Impressions of Monet: The Experience.
In The Garden, Gardens by the Bay’s horticulturists have been inspired by Monet’s passion for gardening, and will recreate scenes from his spectacular garden through a tapestry of horticulture and floral artistry.
Monet’s iconic pink house and its garden (which still stand today and are the second most visited tourist attraction in the region of Normandy, France) will be recreated, as well as the house’s adjoining garden called Clos Normand, and the land at the bottom of Clos Normand called the Water Garden.
The landscapes of Clos Normand and the Water Garden served as inspirations for Monet’s paintings in his later years. Plants similar to those in Monet’s original gardens, such as hydrangeas, weeping willows, digitalis, daisies, delphiniums and geraniums will be featured.
Visitors will also get to see the iconic green Japanese bridge and water lilies – the eponymous subjects of one of his most renowned works, the Water Lilies series.
Technology takes over in The Experience that lies beyond the front facade of the house of Monet. This multi-sensory experience is an immersive adventure into French Impressionism, with the sights and sounds of 19th century Europe as seen through the eyes of Monet and the Impressionist painters.
Get lost in displays of famous, inspirational images set to a powerful classical score. Paintings are projected at an enormous scale, illuminating the bold brushstrokes of Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas and many more
Impressions of Monet at Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome opens on Jul 12, 2024. For more information, visit www.gardensbythebay.com.sg.
