Larger-than-life structures, innovative light installations, 20 million LED lights… It’s going to be a dazzling wonderland set against the backdrop of Singapore’s iconic city skyline.
The world’s largest light, sound and multimedia event illumi will make its international premiere at Bayfront Event Ground from Sep 13, and promises to be an unforgettable experience for all ages with plenty of photo ops for the ’gram. Created by Canadian entertainment company Cavalia and presented by Base Entertainment Asia (the group that brought you celebrated productions like Hamilton and Miss Saigon to Sands Theatre), the nocturnal event has captivated over 3.5 million visitors since it debuted in Montreal, Canada in October 2019.
Singapore visitors can now experience the same immersive spaces, magical landscapes and lifelike animatronics. There are nine themed worlds to explore, such as The Enchanted Maples which transports guests to Canada with glowing maple leaves; winter-themed Walls of Lights; Puppies and Kitties with over 200 animals, including giant cats and dogs; and The Magical Forest featuring multicoloured trees and wildlife. Then there is The Dune Palace which evokes the Sahara with genies and magic floating carpets; The Jurassic Kingdom that brings prehistoric creatures to life; and The Tunnel of Colours for a kaleidoscopic adventure.
It would be hard to miss The illumi Tree of Light which stands 47 metres tall – the size of five Merlions stacked atop one another. Meanwhile, the carousel nearby offers moonlit fun for the whole family.
With millions of lights illuminating the area, one can’t help but think about energy consumption. According to the organisers, illumi is “committed to minimising its environmental footprint”, adopting energy-efficient lighting technologies and prioritising the use of recycled materials in its installations. Efforts are also focused on optimising energy consumption and reducing waste throughout the event.
illumi is held from Sep 13 at Bayfront Event Ground. Prices start from $25 per adult and $15 per child (two to 12 years).
