Got a story about Chinatown? See it in print

You’ve probably seen independent publishers Epigram Books and their Our Neighborhoods series on your last trip to the bookstore. Each volume celebrates a different hood and features stories of people who live and work there, accompanied by illustrations from recreational, on-site drawing group Urban Sketchers Singapore. So far, there have been books on Toa Payoh, Tiong Bahru, Bedok, Queenstown, Katong, Little India and Geyalang Serai.

Now they’re working on a We Love Chinatown book, set to be published in April, and if you have a Chinatown story to share, you can be a part of it. It doesn’t have to be a gut wrenching, blockbuster movie worthy type story. Consider these questions: Who’s your favorite Uncle / Auntie in the hood? What’s it like to live in the Pearl Bank Apartments? What are the best food and shopping bargains? Have you won at chess against the old men at Banda Street?

Write to Dan Koh at [email protected] (by Feb 22) and you could just see your story in the pages of the new We Love Chinatown book.

Meanwhile, on this and any publication by Epigram Books, there’s a special CNY deal (until Feb 28) that will get you 25% off. Just key in the code “ReadUnderRedLanterns” at checkout.
