The Studios gets the SG50 treatment this year. The annual theater season will present 50 of Singapore’s biggest English-language plays going back to the 1960s. A joint effort between the Esplanade and local playwright-director Chong Tze Chien, the season will bring together some 21 directors to restage the work of 32 playwrights.
45 titles will be dramatized readings, while the remaining five will run as full-length productions: Stella Kon’s Emily of Emerald Hill directed by Aidli ‘Alin’ Mosbit; Huzir Sulaiman’s The Weight of Silk on Skin directed by Tracie Pang and starring Adrian Pang; Haresh Sharma’s Off Centre, directed by Oliver Chong; Kuo Pao Kun’s Descendents of the Eunuch Admiral, directed by Jeff Chen; and Tan Tarn How’s The Lady of Soul and Her Ultimate ‘S’ Machine, directed by Zizi Azah Abdul Majid.
