Tampines Bike Park, the only venue in Southeast Asia to be certified by the International Cycling Union, will holding its last event, the Singapore National BMX Championships 2014 on May 25, before it shuts down for good in June.
Its closure, first reported a year ago, will make way for—no surprise really—a new housing development. What we’re losing? 60 hectares of green space, the go-to spot for 2,600 bikers every month and one of four mountain biking trails in Singapore, according to Channel Newsasia.
The silver lining? Seems like the bike scene in our land-scarce city isn’t letting up, what with the opening of home-grown bike shop/cafe/general cool-people hangout Coast Cycles in Siglap (read more about the dual-concept store).
