The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix is back on track for another seven years

The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix is set to take place from 30 Sep – 02 Oct at the Marina Bay Street Circuit this year, promising to deliver a spectacular weekend for visitors from around the world once again. The long-awaited return of the motorsport extravaganza marks the fourth contract renewal for Singapore, with this seven-year extension being the longest for the race to date.

One of the most highly anticipated in the racing calendar, the Singapore night race recorded 268,000 spectators when it was last held in 2019 before the fallout from the pandemic. Over the years, the race has brought about dramatic competition, gripping on-track action, breathless entertainment that extends beyond the circuit, and above them all, a stunning race track one can only find in the Lion City.

The 2022 race will demonstrate how Singapore is open for business as demand for international travel recovers, placing a special focus on our recovery and long-term growth, sentiments shared by Formula 1 and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in a joint-announcement.

“The Singapore F1 race continues to be a strong focal point for tourists, global events and business meetings,” said Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Transport & Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations.

“The renewal will help sustain Singapore’s reputation as a global city with a vibrant lifestyle, attracting international visitors as travel rebounds, and generating business revenue and jobs for Singaporeans.”

The extension also highlights new efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the Singapore race as part of Formula 1’s move towards sustainability.

These initiatives include switching to renewable energy sources, increasing recycling efforts, and switching to sustainable materials, while maximising logistics and travel efficiency by using the least carbon-intensive transport.

“Singapore holds a special place on the F1 calendar, and this extension is part of our long-term commitment to continue to grow the sport in Asia,” shared Mr Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1.

“The plans that are in place to reduce the carbon footprint of the event are impressive and align with our plans to be Net Zero Carbon as a sport by 2030 and I look forward to continuing our successful relationship with Singapore GP and the Singapore Tourism Board as Formula 1 returns to this incredible city.”
