6 hip HDB barber shops in Singapore

You don’t have to make a trip to the city for a stylish haircut, or even a hot towel shave. Gentlemen’s barber shops are so popular now, they have made their way to the heartlands.

Autocutt Barber

Located in a sleepy stretch of Yio Chu Kang Road, this gentlemen’s salon is run by barbers Alvin and Chris, who also specialize in hot towel shaving. Part of its charm is its retro, tiki-inspired decor that is punctuated by a fleet of vintage VW automobiles spilling over from the neighboring diner Kombi Rocks. Besides offering cutting, styling and shaving services, Autocutt also produces its own line of pomades. Prices range from $15 for styling, $35 for a hair cut and $25 for a hot towel shave.

The Black Tie

Tucked away at a Jurong West HDB block is an unapologetically hipster barbershop by Muhammad Tirmidzi Saad and Melvin Koh. Where residents traipse around the estate in slippers and shorts, the barbers on duty are dressed in sharp, dapper outfits. Unsurprisingly, the salon has a diverse clientele, ranging from youths to seniors. Prices range from $15 for a kids/senior citizen’s cut to $45 for a haircut and hot towel shave.

Deep Cuts Barber

A few doors down from Stranger’s Reunion, Deep Cuts Barber is a simple set up hidden in an attic of a shophouse at Kampong Bahru Road. The space is slightly reminiscent of a modern tattoo parlour, with polished wooden floors and framed pictures adorning its walls. The laid-back salon offers a simple menu of services—Gent’s Cut ($28), Hot Towel Shave ($25) and Full Beard Sculpting ($18). Deep Cuts accepts mainly appointments, which customers can make on their website.

Hombre Barberblade

Unlike the other barber shops on this list, Hombre Barberblade is located in a shiny commercial building along Changi Road. It’s all glass, steel and testosterone here—the barbers, who look like no-nonsense bouncers, are actually an affable bunch. Services range from the usual cut and style ($20) and hot towel shave ($22 onwards) to beard trimming ($15 onwards) and hair tattoos ($12 onwards).

Mister Moustache Barber Shop

What is a trendy HDB enclave without a gentlemen’s barber? Mister Moustache Barber Shop is a hair styling and shaving parlor at Everton Park decked out in so-hip-it-hurts vinyl retro barber chairs, leather couches and an eclectic assortment of framed pictures on its walls, a combination that seems to take its cue from the iconic barber shops of New York’s Harlem. Get a hot towel shave at $28, or a full shave and haircut at $35.

Neighbourhood Barbershop

Beyond its non-descript name is a salon brimming with attitude. Manned by a team of young and passionate barbers, this small outfit at Icon@Changi is a dude bro haven, with graphics of Star Wars characters displayed on its walls. The range of services start from a simple eyebrow shaping ($5) to a shave ($10) and cut ($20). There are also haircuts for women with prices at $20 for short lengths to $25 for those with longer hair. Appointments are preferred.
