5 Singapore stories you may have missed this weekend (June 2-8)

Veteran Singaporean author Catherine Lim has penned an open letter to PM Lee, sharing her concern that Singaporeans no longer trust their government, and that the government is unable or unwilling to listen to the voices and opinions of its people. Her blog post has since gone viral on social media. Kudos to you, Catherine.

The widow of a Changi Airport worker killed in a freak accident has apparently squandered the nearly $1 million she received in insurance payouts and donations from the public. Netizens aren’t sparing any sympathy, and we can understand why.

The recent CPF fufore has precipitated a “Return Our CPF” protest, which took place at Hong Lim Park last Saturday. The event attracted over 3,000 people (mostly middle-aged citizens), and the line-up of speakers included former Presidential Candidate Tan Kin Lian, ex-Singapore Democratic Party member Vinccent Wijeysingha and, of course, blogger Roy Ngerng.

Singaporean Andy Chua has won the chance to have a private lunch with billionaire Warren Buffet, after putting in the highest bid of a whopping US$2.17 million in the annual charity online auction (he’s obviously loaded as well). Venue of choice? NYC’s Smith & Wollensky steakhouse.

South Korea’s Trick Eye Museum opened its doors here yesterday at Resorts World Sentosa’s waterfront, featuring 80 paintings and optical illusions. Coincidentally, the suspiciously similar Alive Museum will also be opening on June 12 at Suntec City. We wonder what it is with wanting to be deceived these days…
