It’s always good to have a hobby to fall back on, especially in Singapore—hours can be long, people can be impossible to deal with and things don’t usually go as planned. And then there are those who become really good at what they do, and start doing amazing things with their skills, like these bunch of bakers who flaunt their creations on Instagram. Sarah’s Loft
She gave up her job as a graphic designer to work as a server at a cafe. It was here whe she realized that she had a knack for baking. She later travelled to Japan and went for baking classes to improve her skills. She came back to give her own classes, and also open up her own cafe. She later handed the cafe over to her friends and now works on her own.
CHIC Cupcakes SG
Despite being a mother of three, Delphine manages to to teach herself how to bake and eventually run an online site, where people can order some of her creations. If you’ve ever wanted to pick up a new hobby which happens to involve sugar, flour and eggs, but you’re not sure where to start, well, Delphine holds one-on-one classes (apart from all the private parties and corporate team events) you can sign up for.
Ng Li Tying
Just like most stories, Li Tying’s beginnings were humble. She realized her calling while working at Wimbly Lu six years ago when customers professed their love for her S’mores Pie and Root Beer Float Cake. Today, she’s moved on to run her own gig called “The Spatula & Pen”, where she customizes cakes that reflects the personality, quirks and story of the person she’s baking for.
Caleen
This Singaporean is currently living out her life in Australia as a student at Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney, and has no qualms about gracing the Internet with her talents in baking and cooking. Not recommended for viewing after 10pm; may cause hunger.
Elizabeth Eu
While her pictures look pretty amazing to us, Elizabeth mostly bakes and cooks for herself. According to her, she’s “afraid of disappointing people”, but she does take up orders occasionally. We’re sure her 10.4k followers can attest to her creations, especially since she’s currently working with Naiise to sell photos of her rainbow cupcakes for a good cause.
Amanda
Looking at photos is one thing, but trying to recreate them is another. Amanda is currently studying at Waseda University in Tokyo and uses some of her spare time baking chocolate-everything. But the best thing about it is that she provides recipes for some on her blog, just in case you’re feeling a little peckish.
Grace Chan
This former med school student who just graduated from NUS just four months ago spent a lot of time in the kitchen making sweet treats for herself and her loved ones; understandable really, seeing the hours needed to cram all that medical information within such a short span of time. We’re not complaining though; just look at her beautiful, saccharine-fuelled Instagram feed.
