We’ve long known and debated about the demolishment of the iconic Bukit Brown cemetery to make room for an eight-lane road to the MacRitchie Viaduct and the Adam Flyover. Well, the inevitable has started. The Straits Times reported today that iconic gates have been removed this week, soon to be followed by the four columns that frame the gates.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Bukit Brown is one of Singapore’s oldest cemeteries, where many of the city’s earliest residents are buried. Catch one of the famous informal walking tours while you still can. The next one is on Sunday, Oct 4, at 9am.
The eight-lane road is schedule for completion in 2017. For more updates, follow the Singapore Heritage Society here.
