Asia’s largest musical instrument store began as a small, humble music company that supplied brass and woodwind instruments to the British military band back in 1946 when it was founded after World War II. Swee Lee has since become a giant in both Singapore and the region, distributing all sorts of music gear, equipment, instruments and what-have-yous. They’ve outdone themselves once again after opening the doors to its first-ever dedicated drum store where else but Peninsula Shopping Complex, the place musicians go to for all their musical needs.
These guys have been super busy the past year, diversifying their arsenal of products to include electronic tools like digital drums, DJ equipment, consumer audio and other lifestyle products. This drum store is another expansion exercise for them to cater to the needs of not just drummers who have gone pro, but for anyone who has even the slightest interest in picking up the instruments.
They’ll be stocking some of the best and well-loved drum brands in the world, including Japanese drummakers Pearl and Tama, more than a century old US company Ludwig, and fan favorites Meinl, Sabian and Gretsch. You can also get your hands on an impressive range of hand drums, sticks, stands, gear cases and other peripherals by brands like Vic Firth, Evans LP, Remo and Roland (they’re the exclusive distributor of this premium electronic drum equipment brand). These and many other brands that will be stocked in-store have been instrumental in the works of legendary acts like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and The Foo Fighters.
Another great thing about the dedicated percussion specialty space is that you can actually try out the gear—including custom-built kits—without necessarily having to make a purchase. So if you’ve ever dreamed of drumming on kits from various brands, all you gotta do is drop them an email before heading down to the store. Drumming experts will also be there if you need a recommendation or two, or if you just wanna talk music.
Swee Lee Drum Shop is located at #B1-38/39 Peninsula Shopping Complex, 3 Coleman St., and operates from 10:30am-7pm on Mondays to Saturdays, and 12:30-6:30pm on Sundays and Public Holidays.
