At the height of the 2015 haze crisis, the team from Channel NewsAsia’s Get Real embarked on a journey to Central Kalimantan. Braving the ill effects of the pollution there, they filmed a documentary that told the stories of the people suffering at ground zero of the crisis. Now, Heart of the Haze has been nominated for a Peabody Award.
Founded in 1941, the Peabody Awards recognize programs that tell important stories. This encompasses news coverage, documentaries, entertainment, radio programming and podcasts, web content, public service programming and children’s/youth programming. Prominent nominees for this year’s awards include TV series Fargo, Fresh Off the Boat, Jessica Jones and Veep.
Of the 60 programs nominated, 30 will receive awards. The winners will be announced from Apr 19 with the awards presented at a ceremony in New York on May 21.
