Move over carrier pigeons. SingPost delivered the mail to Pulau Ubin using a drone, The Straits Times has reported. SingPost had help from the IDA to create this drone, and sent over a T-shirt and a letter from Lorong Halus to Pulau Ubin. This trial run took five minutes and covered about 2km.
The drone can fly up to 45m and covers a distance of 2.3km. The drone is battery operated and supposedly has a minimal carbon footprint. There’s even an app in development where residents can request deliveries at a convenient time for them.
But before you reprise your teenage tendencies to write long, tortured snail mail love letters: there’s no word when this will become a reality.
In the meantime, check out the video and get excited.
