Gillman Barracks is hosting an all-day party later this month

Arts enclave Gillman Barracks has recently had a mass exodus of galleries, but that’s not stopping them from throwing great parties.

Later this month, on Jul 25, the Art After Dark series transforms from night to day. Redubbed Art Day Out! this month, it will start from 11am instead of the usual 6pm, and will feature funky DJ gigs and loads of local craft works on sale too.

The biggest highlight is the section at the end of Malan Road right between the Red Baron and CCA. There will be a craft market with works by local accessory markets and designers going on sale, plus good music with DJs lined up from 11am on. The cool guys from Darker Than Wax will be taking the sundowner slot from 4pm, with their obscure jazz-house while you chew on that gourmet burger or down beer at Red Baron till closing time.

For art lovers: currently showing at CCA is Fish Story, to be continued, featuring immersive videos and photos by the late American artist Allan Sekula. Galleries will also be extending their gallery hours till 8pm, so you’ll have plenty of time to vsee some of the other notable shows around GB, including hypnotic paintings by Khadim Ali at ARNDT, and The Collective Young from Southeast Asia at Mizuma Gallery, featuring cutting-edge works by emerging Southeast Asian artists like Agung Prabowo and Zul Othman.
