It’s a tough world out there—in the F&B industry, that is. Just 11 months after its exciting launch in January, American-style restaurant and cocktail bar Crackerjack, from the people behind 28 HongKong Street and Proof & Company, is making its exit. From early January onwards, say goodbye to day-time brunches and events, as the main room will become an exclusively night-time venue—before closing officially on Mar 1, 2018 forever.
In its place, then, will be The Proof Collective’s global headquarters. According to an internal communication announcement from Crackerjack, the establishment is closing because “great financial numbers just haven’t materialized” for the company, and don’t “justify staying the course”. While business will continue till the end of December, the gradual transition to night-time bar and eventual closure in 2018 will mean cutting employees, said Crackerjack. But the company reassured that they are “100% committed” to helping staff find alternative roles, whether it’s within The Proof Collective or elsewhere.
Some good news though—the “pocket bar” Junior located just behind the building will remain open, with Head Bartender Peter Chua staying at its helm. A new menu is even in the works, and will launch in Feb 2018. No one likes seeing cool places go, but knowing the people at Proof, we’re sure something great is in the works.
