Little India will get a new, posh-looking hotel in May

The last time we wrote about Little India just three months ago, a new vinyl shop and cafe selling records, coffee and select cult brand apparel called Choice Cuts open its doors; a cool Singapore Art Week event that saw the neighborhood covered in murals took place; and two major Hindu festivals happened almost back to back. Come May this year, the quaint neighborhood will be getting a swanky new upscale hotel under the Park Hotel name.

Park Hotel Farrer Park will sit right above Farrer Park MRT station and become the latest iconic landmark in the area. The concept of building a hotel like this in a vibrant enclave like Little India isn’t new. Hotel Indigo took over one of Singapore’s heritage buildings, the Joo Chiat Police Station, and features design elements inspired by the culture of the Straits-born Chinese Peranakans and the vintage charm of the Katong district. There’s Hotel Genting in Jurong East that’s meant to be a “stunning lakeside destination for business and leisure” in Singapore’s upcoming CBD (though we really feel like they’re years ahead before Jurong Lake District actually becomes a thing), and the recently opened, super minimalist Hotel Mono in Chinatown.

This new branch is situated in a precinct that’s brimming with history that dates back to the 1840s (fun fact: Farrer Park is home to Singapore’s first racecourse and was considered the “it” place for sports and social gatherings). Designed by award-winning RSP Architects—the same people behind iconic structures like The Interlace, Henderson Waves and the upcoming Jewel Changi Airport, the highly anticipated 20-storey hotel features 300 rooms with various configurations, including unique duplex loft layouts, and will pay tribute to the district’s melting pot of cultures through its food offerings, arts and cultural programming, and other initiatives.

It’s also a short walk from City Square mall and the 24-hour Mustafa Center, so if you’re thinking of planning a staycay here, act fast; room rates are starting at $199 per night here.
