LTA asks public to suggest names for final three stations on the Circle Line

At the moment, if you want to get to Marina Bay Sands from Harbourfront, you’d have to take the train on the NEL to Chinatown, and change to the Downtown Line to Bayfront MRT Station. But the 4km-long Circle Line 6, which consists of the three stations to make the train line an actual circle in 2025, will change that and connect Harbourfront to the Marina Bay area. But until then, the Land Transport Authority is calling for suggestions from the public to name the stations currently called Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward.

There are a couple of criterias that the names have to meet. For obvious reasons, the names need to to reflect the heritage and history of where the station is at or illustrate Singapore’s multi-racial and multi-cultural identity. LTA has also suggested that the public avoid naming them after public structures and commercial or residential developments. It’s not the first time that the LTA has called for such an exercise, with previous ones conducted for stations on the Circle, Downtown and the upcoming Thomson-East Coast Lines. Once the names have been shortlisted, they’ll be sent to the Street and Building Names Board for endorsement, followed by a voting exercise later this year.

The closing date is Jun 18. Get your brains crackin’ and submit your suggestions here.
