With a tap on your phone, your ride arrives within minutes to pick to you up. But it's not an Uber nor a Grab; it's an SBS bus.

This may soon be a reality from Q2 next year as the <a href="https://www.lta.gov.sg/apps/news/page.aspx?c=2&id=e68de01d-aeb4-4cfd… target="_blank">Land Transport Authority (LTA) aims to start its on-demand bus trial services in Joo Koon, Punggol and Shenton Way to better serve commuters during off-peak hours. These buses will also be able to take pick-up and drop-off requests at any desired bus stops in the area, saving you the hassle of changing buses.

Yesterday, LTA called a tender to seek proposals from the transport industry on the implementation of such services.

Currently, Joo Koon (for Services 253, 255 and 257), Punggol North/West (for Services 84 and 382) and Shenton Way/Marina South (for Services 400 and 402) have low-demand during off-peak hours and have waiting times of 18-20 minutes during these hours. With an on-demand service, waiting times will be cut short and an arrival time for buses will be given even before confirmation of the booking.

At such an early stage, fees of the service have yet to be announced. But you can expect a similar price to your morning cup of kopi.
