Founder of Monocle, aka tome of all that is overpriced and achingly desirable anyway, Tyler Brule, is on his way back to our sunny island. He’s in Singapore for the launch of his new book, The Monocle Guide to Good Business, a how-to manual for companies and start-ups and sequel to last year’s The Monocle Guide to Better Living.
In a world where the printed word is dying, Tyler has taken his very fat, very expensive design/politics/lifestyle news magazine and turned it into a publishing empire that includes a 24-hour internet radio station, coffee table books, pop-up stores and lots more. Clearly he has a thing or two to share about beating the entrepreneurial odds.
This upcoming Singapore trip is Brule’s second visit to the red dot. His first was last year for the Monocle pop-up store at BooksActually. There’s been talk of new ventures in Singapore (the long-discussed cafe? a local bureau of his branding agency Winkreative?), so expect the hiply-bespectacled to throng.
