Our city’s esteemed shopping belt is about to get a watery addition. As part of ION Orchard’s 10th anniversary celebrations, the mall is setting up Orchard Road’s first-ever mermaid tank installation—complete with live mermaid. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday (5pm, 6pm and 7pm) from Apr 1-28, stop by the glittering mirror-paneled facade for selfies and meet-and-greets with the mermaid.
The installation is part of ION Orchard’s Spring/Summer fashion season, a vibrant collision of nature and undersea fantasy. As the outdoor space transforms into a dreamlike fashion garden, the centerpiece is of course the purpose-built mermaid aquarium tank—2.4 metres tall and containing some 8,000 litres of seawater. Throw in a soundtrack of marine life and a splash of decorative lighting and you’ve got a proper transcendental attraction.
It’s not just all passive gawking through the glass too. The installation includes a special optical-illusion see-through water ceiling within the aquatic garden, accented with floral backdrops and photo-ready false greenery.
In addition, look out for more fashion and lifestyle pop-ups taking place inside ION Orchard throughout the rest of the year. The likes of Bulgari, Burberry, HERA, Monica Vinader, and even Clipper Tea will be hosting collaborations and anniversary exclusives, with Christian Dior paving the way next with a pop-up exhibition come Apr 17.
